Changsha's regional gross domestic product (GDP) exceeded 1.5 trillion CNY for the first time in 2024, the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Statistics announced on February 19. In 2024, Changsha's economic operations saw steady progress and improvements, with the economic aggregate making breakthroughs. The city's comprehensive strength has been continuously enhanced.
According to preliminary calculation, Changsha's regional GDP amounted to 1.526878 trillion CNY in 2024, constituting 28.7% of the province's total. Calculated at constant prices, Changsha's regional GDP increased 5.0% year-on-year, matching the national figure and exceeding the provincial rate by 0.2 percentage points.
In terms of the sectors, the added value of the primary industry was 48.503 billion CNY, up 3.9%; that of the secondary industry increased 6.3% to 545.705 billion CNY; and that of the tertiary industry rose 4.3% to 932.67 billion CNY. The added value of the three industries accounted for 3.2%, 35.7%, and 61.1% of the city's regional GDP respectively, and the three industries contributed 2.7%, 45.6% and 51.7% to economic growth respectively.
Data showed that, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 9.6% year on year, 3.8 and 2.3 percentage points higher than the national growth rate and the provincal growth rate, respectively. Besides, 27, or 73.0%, of the 37 major industrial sectors registered an increase in their added value.
In 2024, Changsha's total retail sales of consumer goods reached 579.771 billion CNY, representing a 4.2% increase over the previous year. The growth rate was 0.7 percentage points higher than the national figure and 1.2 percentage points lower than the provincial figure.
The city's fixed asset investment expanded 2.3% year on year, 9.1 percentage points higher than the previous year.
