The designated supervision site for imported fruits at the Chenglingji Port, Yueyang, was recently approved by the China's General Administration of Customs (GAC) to start operation. It is the third designated supervision site for imported fruits in Hunan Province, and also Hunan's only designated supervision site for the import of fruits via water transportation.

Hunan has two airport-based designated supervision sites for imported fruits, located at Changsha and Zhangjiajie airports, respectively. They mainly undertake supervision of high-end imported fruits such as cherries.
The import of fruits via water transportation features large volume in a single trip and relatively low logistics cost. Therefore, the port-based supervision sites are usually used for cheaper imported fruits, which can be complementary to the airport-based ones and helps meet the multiple demands of the consumers in Hunan and surrounding areas for imported fruits.
"We are trying to import the first batch of fruits during the upcoming Spring Festival," said a manager of an international logistics company in Yueyang.
The designated supervision site for imported fruits at the Chenglingji Port was approved by GAC at the end of 2021. According to the Yueyang customs authority, the inspection area for imported fruits covers about 652 square meters, consisting of several functional zones including an inspection platform, fruit refrigerators, cold treatment facilities, and decayed fruit collectors, as well as technical rooms for on-stie inspection, quarantine, and sample storage. Related facilities are fully equipped to satisfy the requirements for imported fruit inspection.
