As of 16:00 on Nov 24, the Jiuquan-Hunan HVDC line, China's first large-scale transmission channel for renewable energy, has delivered over 150 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from Jiuquan, Gansu province, to Hunan province since entering operation in 2017, hitting a new high for cross-regional transmission.
The 800 kV overhead line is China's first ultra-high voltage DC project that combines large-scale wind power, solar energy, and other renewable energy sources with thermal power. It is also an important part of China's west-to-east power transmission program.
The Qilian converter station, operating as the transmitting end of the line, plays a crucial role in promoting Gansu province's energy transformation and development, as well as driving the economic and social development of both Gansu and Hunan provinces.
Since the onset of winter this year, the HVDC line has effectively met the high electricity demand in the central China region during peak hours, significantly enhancing the integration of renewable energy into Gansu's power grid.
