According to the Changsha Customs data released on November 24 that, Hunan's export value of vegetables reached 10.12 billion yuan in the first ten months this year, making a year-on-year increase of 42.2%. Hunan's vegetable exports exceeded 10 billion yuan for the first time, ranking second nationwide.
"Jiangyong's selenium-rich vegetables are popular in Hong Kong. Nearly 30 tons of fresh vegetables are sold to Hong Kong every day," said a manager of an agricultural products company in Jiangyong County, Yongzhou. The company's vegetables, transported by trucks on November 24 morning , can reach Hong Kong consumers' dining tables on the same day.
This year, Hunan has continued to consolidate its existing partnerships in markets, including Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore, while also exploring opportunities in East Asia such as the United Arb Emirates and Saudi Arabia. More than 50 categories of vegetables have been exported, including spinach, Chinese cabbage, wax gourd, and romaine.
Hunan's 11 cities and prefecture have handled vegetable export business. Yongzhou is a major vegetable exporter in the province. Between January and October, Yongzhou has exported vegetables worth 9.63 billion yuan, growing 40% over last year. There are 108 plantations registered at the customs authority for vegetable export in Yongzhou, with a registered area of 87,000 mu (nearly 5,803 hectares), taking up more than 80% of the provincial total.
As the export volume surges, the efficiency of vegetable exports has improved. A Hunan-based company has the capability to process online registrations for vegetable plantation and processing enterprise within one day. The customs clearance time of each batch of exported vegetables has been shortened to about half an hour on average. This year, Yongzhou launched a pilot program for direct vegetable supply to Hong Kong, involving all vegetable exporters. The vegetables can now arrive in Hong Hong within 7 hours.
