The Changsha Municipal People's Government held a China (Changsha) – Uganda Investment Economic and Trade Promotion Conference in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, on April 25 local time.
Entrusted by the Hunan Provincial People's Government, Kang Zhenlin, Changsha vice mayor and chairperson of the Federation of Industry and Commerce of Changsha City, made a presentation on Hunan Province.
Representatives of the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Commerce and the Yuhua District Government respectively introduced Changsha City and the construction of the core zone of the Pilot Zone for In-depth China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation.
Zhang Lizhong, Chinese ambassador to Uganda; Frank Tumwebaze, minister for agriculture, animal industry and fisheries of Uganda; and, Sidronius Okaasai Opolot, minister of state for energy of Uganda, attended and delivered speeches.
More than 100 Chinese and Ugandan representatives were present, including officials of Ugandan authorities in agriculture, energy and mineral development, foreign affairs, and investment promotion, the commercial associations and enterprises in Uganda, and the Chinese Ambassy in Uganda, as well as persons-in-charge of the Chinese enterprises accompanying the tour to Uganda.

Ambassador Zhang noted that, Hunan Province, especially its Changsha City, is promoting high-level opening up at an accelerated pace to pursue high-quality development. The 3rd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo will open in Changsha in June. "I'm glad to see that many enterprises are seeking business opportunities in China based on this expo," he said.

Minister Frank talked about Uganda's advantages in agriculture, processing, trade, and human resources, and expected to conduct in-depth cooperation with Hunan Province and Changsha City.
Minister Sidronius highlighted Uganda's abundant mineral resources and welcomed Hunan enterprises to invest in Uganda.

Vice Mayor Kang highlighted the strong complementarity and significant potential for cooperation in agriculture, energy and electric power, mining industry, industrial parks, tourism, and infrastructure between Hunan and Uganda. Hunan has been playing an active role in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, and continuing deepening economic and trade cooperation with Uganda. Meanwhile, the economic and trade cooperation between Changsha City and Uganda is getting closer. In 2022, Changsha's imports and exports to Uganda hit 116 million CNY, up 40% year on year. A batch of significant cooperative projects are progressing rapidly. He invited Ugandan governments and enterprises to Changsha this June for the 3rd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, and expected to deepen communication and strengthen collaboration with Uganda with this promotion conference as a new start.
