A press conference on the financial operation of Hunan Province in the first half of 2023 was held on August 2. It revealed that nearly 460,000 shops and retailers in Changsha have accepted e-CNY payments as of the end of June, an increase of 51% compared to the end of the previous year. Up to 73.29 million transactions have been made, with the total amount hitting 11.8 billion yuan, up 38% and 42% respectively.
Since the beginning of this year, Changsha has further applied pilot scenarios for the digital yuan to key areas such as government services, public transportation, inclusive finance, and rural revitalization. The city ranked among the top in the second batch of six pilot areas nationwide in terms of digital yuan transactions, transaction amount, and online digital yuan transactions.
In the next step, the People's Bank of China Changsha Central Sub-branch will expand the number of pilot budget units that launch digital RMB salary payment service, replicate and advance mature scenarios, accelerate the layout of digital yuan payments in Changsha-specific pilot scenarios like internet celebrity-driven consumption, and promote trial use of digital yuan in people's livelihood areas such as farmer's markets, transportation, taxes, and public service payments.
