The China Green Food Development Center recently issued certificates for the first batch of memorable farming and agricultural products. Hunan has 12 agricultural brands and products that have been shortlisted.
Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture topped the province in the number of its shortlisted products—including Fenghuang tartary buckwheat, Yongshun vine tea, and Songbai rice.
Fenghuang County has transformed its disadvantage of limited paddy fields in its mountainous areas into an advantage by developing a miscellaneous grain-crops industry. The county has rolled out a "tartary buckwheat +" mode, featuring integrated development of tartary buckwheat production, forestry, and tourism. The annual output value of its buckwheat industrial chain has reached nearly 200 million yuan.
Boasting over 1,000 years of vine tea cultivation, Yongshun County has been named the "land of traditional vine tea in China". Yongshun vine tea has been listed by the National Health Commission as an example of the homology of medicine and food in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and has been shortlisted as a national geographical indication (GI) product. There are 110,000 mu (about 7,333 hectares) of vine tea plantations and 44 vine tea demonstration parks, ensuring an annual output of 2,200 tonnes.
In addition, crayfish in Nanxian County, soft-shelled turtle in Hengyang, and Baizhu (Macrocephalae Rhizoma) in Pingjing County were also on the list of memorable farming and agricultural products.
In recent years, Hunan Province has vigorously promoted the development of industries with local characteristics in rural areas, digging into the particular features of the province's rural areas, specialties, and resources of farming culture, in order to boost rural revitalization in an all-round way through accelerating industrial vitalization.
