A symphony concert of new Chinese instruments—A Panorama of Hunan Province, Echoes of the Silk Road—was staged at the Kremlin in Russia on the evening of August 27, local time. Hunan artists and Russian Philharmonic Orchestra performed classic music pieces of China and Russia, passing on friendship between the two countries through music.
The concert was the fifth show of the Russian concert tour featuring new Chinese instruments. Its music director was erhu virtuoso Zhang Yinyue, vice president of the Hunan Song and Dance Theatre and chairwoman of the Changsha Musicians Association. The concert was conducted by young Russian conductor Dmitry Filatov.
Traditional Chinese instruments including erhu, pipa, sheng, and guzheng were spotlighted with the performances by Hunan musicians and the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra. The audience was enchanted by the erhu concerto "the Great Wall" and Tchaikovsky's classic pieces, as well as the profound cultures of Russia and China, showcased through Russian poet Pushkin's poems and Chinese poems. The friendship of the two peoples was further enhanced during the concert. The Russian Philharmonic Orchestra performed Hunan famous folk tune "Liuyang River". Accompanied by erhu, the song "The Night of Moscow Suburb" was performed in Russian and Chinese.
From Ekaterinburg and Sochi to Moscow, brilliant performances staged by Hunan art troupes have won applause from Russian audiences.
