Hunan's retail sales of consumer goods hit 792.075 billion CNY in the first five months this year, marking a year-on-year increase of 7.7%, the Hunan Bureau of Statistics announced recently.

Sales of basic necessities have seen steady growth. Between January and May, among wholesale and retail businesses over the designated size, the retail sales of basic necessities grew by 4.6% over the same period of last year. The retail sales of grain, oil, and food, and daily necessities increased by 8.5% and 4.4% respectively.

New energy vehicle consumption has shown accelerated growth. In the first five months, among wholesale and retail businesses over the designated size, the sales of new energy vehicles rose 63.5% which was 9.5 percentage points higher than that in the period between January and April.

Sales of petroleum and related commodities have maintained rapid growth. Between January and May, among wholesale and retail businesses over the designated size, the sales of petroleum and related commodities increased by 13.6% year on year.

Accommodation and catering consumption has seen booming growth. In the first five months, the retail sales of accommodation and catering businesses over the designated size was up 14.1% over the same period of last year.
